Journalism

I earn my crust writing articles and editing.

Currently I am the managing editor of Marine Industry News and write about leisure marine, superyachts and commercial maritime. Some of my favourite articles are linked below.

I was a weekly columnist for the Portsmouth News for 14 years and have written for The Times, the Sun and other national press.

Previous editorships include Hiya! (A woman’s mag in Scotland), The Golfer’s Guide to Scotland, Your Wedding, Corporate Wales, Corporate Northern Ireland, Hogmanay 2000 and more.

My first editor role was as assistant (then deputy) on Professional Builders Merchant.

Some of the topics I’ve loved writing about include orca sinking boats off the Iberian coastline. This is reflected in my current WIP which has many mentions of orca.

I am very interested in the environment and sustainability and have steered MIN’s content to help raise awareness of pollution. This story rather broke my heart – it’s about denial of pollution.

One of my first stories for MIN was about a cargo ship which overturned and consequently hundreds of sheep drowned. It was shocking. But it’s not all doom and gloom! There are lots of lovely stories about companies and individuals doing amazing work with electric motors, and safety gear and driving the industry forward in many exciting ways.
